I have been searching for a list of army aircraft that are in use today. So far I have see a lot of heli's but not a lot of fixed wing. Where can I go to get a complete list of the aircraft in use ?

Also do all army aviators have to start out in rotary first. Or can they go straight to fixed wing ?

I would think that coming out of the army as a helicopter pilot there would be many jobs availble. Like working as a news helicopter pilot or doing sight seeing tours or something. Is there any pilots out there who found it easy to transition from army pilot to civilian pilot and still make good money ?

Rotary wing AH-64D, UH-60, CH-47, OH-58, AH-6J. Fixed wing VIP transport only C-12, UC-35A. You will start out in helicopters first and then can apply for fixed wing later. It is extremely hard to get a fixed wing rating for the Army. If you join the army to fly you will fly rotary.

How hard is it to get a fixed wing slot ? Let me guess it's probably whoever has the most seniority. Also what about this scenario, Say I fly for the army for a 4 years... is it possible to switch to the A.F. and stay an officer and fly for them ? Thanks Guys for the help

It is extremely competitive to get a fixed wing slot. The Army's focus is on rotary not fixed wing. I work with a CW3 who has nearly 20 years in and is an instructor pilot several thousand hours and several aircraft ratings been turned down for the fixed wing selections about 7 times. If you're looking for fixed wing join the Navy Airforce or Marines cause you wont fly it in the Army unless you get very lucky. minimum time in the Army for aviation is 6 years after completion of flight school. I know the Coast Guard takes Army pilots both Commissioned and Warrants you'll have to check with each individual service to see what the transfer requirements are. Oh ya by the way the Army wont let you go til you finish your 6 years.

Wow... sounds like Id be better off just sticking with the army then. Of course I would have to remain in active duty to fly. It's good that it does transfer over. Six years shouldn't be that bad. Thanks for the information.

Yup, Pope AFB is right next door (like sharing an airfield) to Bragg.
P.S. the 101 is now the 101st Air Assault Division, the 82nd (based at Bragg) jumps out of airplanes along with some smaller organizations.
