Im interested in flying for the army but I do want to know how easy the transition is from military helicopter pilot to reg civilian pilot. What kind of jobs can I look for ? How hard is the transition ? I know there is like news choppers and tour heli's... but what other jobs are out there and what is the turn out rate for these ? Also what is the average pay for an pilot in the army and how much does it increase each year ( this does depend on rank right ?) Thanks again Guys for your help

Do a search on the internet for military pay charts look under the W1-W5 or O1-O9 pay scales to determine what you would get payed depends on if you go commissioned officer or warrant officer. If you want flight time go warrant if you want to sit behind a desk go commissioned. Dont know about transitioning to civilian but all your experience will transfer over to a FAA license. But why fly a Bell206 or MD500 when you can fly an Apache or a Blackhawk. The pay in the military is better than most civilian helo jobs. It pays off in the long run because you dont have to pay back 75k in school debt and you get multi-engine turbine ratings in less than a year something most civilian pilots only dream about for the first 5-10 years

Well Im thinking about doing army rotc for remaining years in college to help pay some bills. So I guess i would be stuck behind a desk then ? Is there a way to come out of rotc and be a w.o. ? I believe it's really competitive though for the WOCS trying to fly ?

Transition from military to civilian: You really need to consider several things: In the military I believe you have the option of "picking up" a civilian commercial/instrument license when you finish flight school. If you wait til later, (but you must have been on active flight ststus within the preceeding 12 months) you will have to obtain the civilian tickets via Military Competancy, which includes an FAA written test and a civilian flight test with an FAA Designated Examiner. If you have been off flight status for more than 12 months, then you will have to complete the entire civilian training requirement. (Yes, military time does count, but you still have to have the appropriate checks in the appropriate boxes and a minumum priod of test prep before the check ride. As for employment. aviation employment is as fickle as the wind. One month any pilot breathing is hired, the next hundreds are laid off. It takes a bit of luck and timing. Jobs are out here, but they may not be where you want to be, so be flexible. Get the trade publications, and watch the trends.
