I am trying to gather up opinions from those of you currently serving as aviators and those of you that have adequate knowledge of the programs in the Army.

What are my chances of being an Army Aviator with these stats?

I just turned 23 with two years of college underneath me. To complete college it will take another 3 years due to change in major. I will be 25-27 when I have finished. I currently weigh 280 pounds. This may seem like a joke, I promise you its not. I really have this strong desire to be an Army aviator. I have come back to this “Need to join” three times in my life and for whatever reason been talked out of it. My dad was a scout and tanker in the Army for 23 years and has told me repeatedly to find something else. I can’t stop thinking about it though. Three major things I need to do before I am ready though.

1. Complete college
2. Lose the weight and become extremely physically fit
3. Maybe eye surgery

So, please do not hold back, I need your honest no BS opinions about my chances. Any tips or suggestions for helping me complete my goals would be appreciated as well. Thank you very much for your help, information, and assistance.

nine7,

Sounds like you know want, and have to do to get in. I'm in your situation but a few years ahead. I'm 26 now, graduated from college a few years ago but waited until I was absolutely positive of myself before going for aviation. Your weight can obviously be taken care of in 2-3 years if you work for it, and the eyesite doesn't have to be great to get in. I believe it's 20/50 correctable to 20/20 but someone correct me if I'm wrong.
I'm in the final pahse of the application proces so if there's anything you want to know about the tests or various steps send me an e-mail to Baltjustin@aol.com and I'd be glad to answer what I can.

Justin
