I hope that someone can help with my moving anxiety here.... I am an interservice transfer from the Navy to the WOFT program. I check in to Ft. Rucker for WOCS on Aug 12 to begin class on the 25th.
My question is that my family will move to Ft. Rucker after I graduate from WOCS. I was wondering how hard of a transition this is for my wife and two children. My nine year old will be attending school and I want to make this transition as smooth as possible for all involved. I will be in school and I am not sure how much I can prepare for their move from inside WOCS. Will I get time after WOCS to pcs them? We are coming from Atlanta, so it is not very far. Is it all up to my wife? I just do not want them to have to stay in lodging or the Daleville Inn while we wait for our goods.... Oh and I am pretty sure we will stay in housing, since it would be more convienient and easier.
Thank you in advance for any help that you may be able to give me...

This would probably be a better question for someone who has actually gone through WOCS with a Family as I went through about 7 years ago but I was single. But since I am living here at Fort Rucker with a Family now, I will give you my own advice on this matter.
If it was me, I would wait until after graduating WOCS before trying to move the Family down. Then, I would take advantage of the 10 days of permisive TDY as well as some leave in conjunction in order to find a house, move all my goods, get the kids enrolled in school, and get settled before starting flight school. I say this for a couple of reasons. First, you will have a little time before starting candidate school to get your bearings of the area. Second, this will give you the opportunity to go through WOCS without having to worry about issues such as the arrival of your household goods, schooling, and all the exciting challenges of moving your family. You can just focus on getting through WOCS.
Now again, this is just me talking. You can do whatever fits your needs. I know that there are a lot of Families that move here before WOCS, especially if you have a lot of leave to burn.
Good luck, let me know if there is anything else I can help out with.
I do plan on moving my family after WOCS. I am in Atlanta now, so the move will not be to hard on us. I just want to have my son in school and everyone settled before I start flight school.
Right now we are looking at the money loss while I am in WOCS. I will be losing flight pay $350.00, and BAS $250.00 a month, until flight school begins. I think I will still recieve BAH for Atlanta while in WOCS because of the family staying in Atlanta. If we didnt we could not survive... Im kinda stressed about that, I do not want my family to suffer financially while I am in WOCS and can do nothing about it.
Do you have any idea how much it will cost for WOCS, uniforms are all provided because of Interservice Transfer. I was told I would have to buy everything else. Thats cool, I just wanna know how much I would have to shell out.
Oh and I may be wrong about the BAS thing, I may still get it, I am not sure. I was told that meals still cost WOCS students money, if so then we should get BAS. I think??? Do you know who I could call to find out how much I would still recieve and lose?
