I just found this site and have a question. I'm asking this question on
behalf of my son. He's a Cpl. in the Marines with three years in and likely
to pick up Sgt in Dec. He has a year left and is considering re-enlisting.
He has started to check out what all the other branches has to offer and
is interested in the Army Aviation Warrant Officer Program. Having been out
of the service for more years than I care to remember, I'm not as familiar
with the way things are done now. I think he may be qualified to take the
AFAST, I'm not sure. He has a 110 ASVAB score (I don't know what the GT is)
He has a 1150 SAT. Physically he's in great shape, PT 275. And a real
Gung-Ho Jarhead. My question is, what is the real likelyhood of a Marine
Cpl. being picked for Army Aviation WO ? I've read where you can come in
from any service, but I would think they would take Army personel first and
I would think it's pretty competive within the Army. I didn't mean to be so
longwinded, I just want him to have as much info as possible before making
a decision. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks, Pop

Pop-

Your son should definitely apply. The most unique thing about the
Warrant Officer flight training program is the varied backgrounds
of everyone there. In my WOCS class, we had several "high-school-
to-flight-school" types right side by side with hardcore Army Rangers
as well as those from other services. We had several people from the
Marines, Navy and Air Force in our class. Don't think that the Army
will pick only Army personnel first. If your son is qualified, they
will give him due consideration!

Email me if you have any further questions.

Cheers,

Juris

Juris'
Thanks for the info. I just talked to my son this week. He plans to get started when he gets back to Hawaii next week. I found out his GT was 115 and he already has a top secret clearance. I gave him the e-mail address to the WO recruiter and mentioned he may want to e-mail you for help. He said he would talk to his career councelor, but I figure he will try to talk him into staying in the Marines. Anyway it's in his hands now. Thanks again for the help. Pop

They tend to take the most qualified that apply. I'm ex AF and I know people from every branch.
