I was wondering what the average score for the AFAST test is. I know you need atleast a 90, but where do you need to be to get a serious recommendation? I took it about 4 months ago and scored a 112. Any info would be helpful Thanks

I've been wondering what the average is also, but when I went in front of the board. One of the captins told me he scorde 115, and that wasn't acceptable. I think it depends on the demand for pilots as well.
I scored a 125 on the AFAST and I guess that was pretty good, being that I was accepted. I heard that the national average is somewhere between 115-130 (but I have seen that oh so rare 151), so if you're somewhere between those two numbers you're "Golden"...but if you're not, don't worry about it too much, you're score isn't all that matters.

I am a Avionics Tech Naval Aircrewman 2nd Class (E-5) and was just picked up on the March 2005 board. I am waiting orders to go to WOCS. I was told that I would get an Aug 05 class date.
As far as age, I am 30, and my waiver was approved without any hang-ups. I have been in the Navy for 9 yrs....
As far as AFAST, I scored a 108 and I was picked up on the first board that I applied for....
The difference is that I a had strong recommendations and an aviation heavy resume. You have to network, but any senior officer would most likely be very happy to give anyone a good recommendation if you show initiative and go and ask for it. Remember they can only say no, and most won't, all officers are also recruiters....
Experience, tenacity, and determination is what will make you a more well rounded candidate. Sell yourself, its your career and you have to go and get it... Good luck and I hope to see all of you flying with me one day... caseydclark@yahoo.com
Selling yourself and being arrogant are totally different. I have been in the military for 9 1/2 yrs and what I meant is that you have to be confident in yourself. I am a naval aircrewman (WOC-Select) and when I was putting my package together I went out and got my letters of rec from Army Officers that do not know me, or know what my qualifications are. I would fly these General Officers, and one Assistant Sec. of the Army for maybe 45 min or so. In that amount of time I had explained my interest in Army Aviation, and the Warrant Program. They were all very interested in helping me become a Soldier in the Army. The Commanding General of usarec himself helped me acquire my age waiver.
My point is confidence in your abilities, and your work ethics, not arrogance sell you as a person and a soldier. These officers have only a short amount of time to see who you are, so you have to put your best foot forward all of the time. This is not brown nosing, but the military way.
Leadership, some people have it natural, but it can also be taught and learned, experience plays a big role in leadership. WOCS should help with the rest.
Reflexes, everyone has it, have someone throw a ball at your face, if you catch it or bat it away, then your human, if not then go see the Doc. Reflexes are a given... They teach the monkey skills in flight school..
Intellegence, I have faith that most if not all humans are intellegent enough to learn. WOCS and flight school are all geared for you to learn new things. If you already know it then why challenge yourself.
