boundaries.

AREA A directed effort to obtain detailed information concerning the

terrain or enemy activity within a prescribed area such as a ridge line,

woods, or other feature.

ROUTE A directed effort to obtain detailed information of a specified

route.

RECON IN FORCE  Conducted when commanders cannot obtain

adequate intelligence by other means. An aggressive form of

reconnaissance.
