An area reconnaissance provides detailed
information concerning the terrain or enemy
activity
within a prescribed area, such as a town, ridge
line,
woods, or other feature critical to operations.
Areas
are smaller than zones. (A zone reconnaissance may
include several area reconnaissances). At its most
basic level, an area reconnaissance could be made
of a single point, such as a bridge or an installation.
